Volunteers are the lifeblood of Make a Splash Mid-South. The organization is led by an advisory board and action teams. Volunteers are needed to serve on these action teams and serve as event volunteers. Learn more about the action teams and their tasks below.

Aquatics

  • Develop community-wide swimmer development outreach plan
  • Assist aquatic partners in developing and implementing swimmer development outreach plans
  • Assist aquatic partners in developing and implementing swim instructor and coach development outreach plans
  • Develop process and forum for sharing best practices

Subcommittees:

  1. Swim Clinics (and mentors program)
    • Plan and coordinate swim clinics
    • Recruit mentors to assist at swim clinics
  2. Lifeguard Development
    • Development comprehensive community-wide lifeguard development plan
    • Plan and manage Lifeguard Games
    • Develop forum and process for sharing best practices

Fundraising and Sponsorship

  • Develop and manage fundraising plan and activities
  • Assist Marketing/PR committee in developing fundraising/sponsorship materials
  • Develop local and national leads
  • Negotiate terms with sponsors

  1. Programs and Events
    • Plan and manage all aspects of special events including
      • I Have a Dream… Diversity in Swimming Day
      • Benjamin L. Hooks Institute Diversity Swim Weekend
      • Open House / swim clinics
    • Negotiate terms with facilities, contract service providers and vendors

Research and Education

  • Develop comprehensive research plan
  • Manage research efforts and present results
  • Develop community-wide aquatics survey
  • Document organization’s history
  • Develop and lead symposium presenting research study results

Subcommittees:

  1. CPR/Water Safety
    • Develop comprehensive community-wide water safety program
    • Plan and manage CPR and water safety education events
  2. School Partnerships (Curriculum, Adopt-a-Pool)
    • Develop comprehensive long-term plan to teach all Memphis-area students to swim
    • Work with school and area school systems in developing water safety activities, learn to swim programs and swim teams for students
    • Liaison between schools and close by aquatic centers

Marketing / PR

  • Develop comprehensive community-wide marketing campaign
  • Coordinate and manage all media coverage
  • Develop and manage production of marketing materials
  • Coordinate internal communications
  • Manage website
